Chemistry At Aston

All chemistry teaching at Aston University is undertaken in the Division of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. Undergraduates can enrol in one of four different programmes, all of which place a considerable emphasis on industrial and applied chemistry, and share a largely common first-year curriculum with chemical engineering students.

The commonality offers students with appropriate academic backgrounds the freedom to transfer between programmes during the first year. This flexibility and the emphasis on application are distinctive features of Chemistry at Aston.

The Chemistry curriculum here at Aston is unusual among British degree programmes. It differs from the conventional "pure" chemistry pattern as it benefits from the additional expertise which became available with the formation of the Division of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, whilst still covering the essential "core" of chemical knowledge required by all professional chemists.
