Industrial Placements

Consultation at the industrial siteThe industrial year of the sandwich degree programmes gives relevance to the academic component of the courses. It exposes you to modern industrial practice, problems which can and do arise within the field. It also increases your attractiveness to potential employers. The year spent in industry will enhance your self confidence and improve your chances of getting what you want from graduate life.

Our students receive as much help as possible in obtaining a placement in industry. The Placement Tutor is responsible for advising students and making contacts within industry. He also makes regular visits, wherever possible, to all students who are on their Industrial Experience year. This maintains contact between the students and the Division and also ensures that the students are progressing well during their year in industry.

Our students have been successfully placed in many organisations, in the UK and Europe.

"I chose to do a placement year as I have always had a "hands on" approach to life. After only three months I already feel like an integral part of the team.
It's such a friendly working environment here, which really aids the learning process.
"

Jim Taylor, a BEng, Chemical Engineering student at Aston University.
